Hello and welcome to our new website. We’ll regularly post updates on this blog.
Nothing like a huge snow storm in early March to jumpstart garden planning! We’re planting 2 1/2 new gardens this year (the half is the expansion of Keele Station N—the garden planted last year), so good pacing of activities is critical.
The first West Bend garden waste pickup is March 17. We’ll clear the Dundas W station garden of weeds and add wood chips on the earliest warm days. Considerable ground prep and fence-building is needed for Keele Station N and S. We want to have it ready to plant in May. We’ll be planting three different sites one month!
We’re looking for logs. If you happen to see curbed logs in the neighbourhood, please let us know—mostly short, stumpy ones like the ones that border the Keele Station N garden. If you can pick them up, it would be fantastic as well. We’re also looking for stepping stones.
We have about 1600 4” pots planted with native plants and grasses. Thanks to PollinateTO’s generosity, we’ll buy more. We’re very excited to plant some birch trees we’ve been nurturing for a few years. We’re very excited about all of this, and hope you’ll join the fun!
We’ve also been trying to name our network of connected gardens. A name that would include our proximity to the TTC and Line 2. Wanted something short and memorable, that would also appeal to kids. We came up with: The Bee Line!
