Let it Be – Pollinators Depend on that
Pollinators need to have the material that grew in the garden left in the garden through the fall, over winter and well into the spring.
Pollinators lay their eggs in the stalks of hollow native plants in the fall. These eggs need to safely overwinter in the garden and then the young larve hatch in the spring. Removing them in a fall clean-up destroys much of the past years growth in pollinator populatons.
If a fall clean up is vitally important, then bundle the cut stalks and place them around the edge of the garden out of sight. That way, a new crop of pollinators will survive to help us next year.
