Railside Bridge
This area is in close proximity to the pedestrian overpass on the major commuter rail line entering the City. Part of the the site is contaminated with salt used to keep the stairs free of ice in winter. In late 2021, weeds were removed from the site, fresh soil was added and a number of plantings were made based on donations from Sharon and others. The site was irrigated in 2022. However, the salt proved too much for many plants except for day lilies and some shrubs that survived. Ragweeds love the site also and require constant maintenance. We will explore new options for 2023 including the use of planters that raised above ground and can be covered in winter to avoid salt contamination. Any ideas? Does anyone have surplus planter boxes that we can use?
